Circa 500-480 BC

The obverse depicts the sacrificial tripod of the Oracle of Delphi, who, according to the legend, had ordered the Achaean Myskelos to found the colony of Kroton in Magna Graecia, modern-day Calabria.

The inscription reads: 

φΡO

"Of Kroton”.

The reverse with the same design in negative relief.

The city was reputed for being the birthplace of many brilliant athletes, the most famous of whom was the wrestler and periodonikes Milo of Kroton, the most crowned athlete in ancient times.
