Eocene Crocodile, Borealosuchus wilsoni
Eocene, 50 million years before present
An exceptional example of the prehistoric crocodilian, Borealosuchus wilsoni, found on 14th May 2019 – its discovery recorded on film.
Discovered in Wyoming’s celebrated Green River Formation, one of the world’s most important fossil sites, this crocodilian is remarkably preserved exactly as if still swimming, with its head pointed towards the surface, and three small fish following alongside. Recovered from the renowned ‘18-inch layer’ – described by palaeontologists as one of the richest windows into Eocene life – the specimen is among the finest known examples of its species and offers an extraordinarily vivid glimpse into this long-lost prehistoric ecosystem.
