A very rare Prehistoric Vinca Culture gray terracotta decorated jug, dating to the third millennium BC.
The jug with short, high-bellied body, flaring neck, rounded lip and strap handle. Of thin-walled construction, pleasantly burnished and decorated with incised dots and lines, which have been filled with white clay. A very rare type, unusual in both form and decoration.
The Prehistoric Vinca (pronounced 'vincha') Culture flourished in what are now the Balkan states of Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia from the 6th Millennium BC.
Height: 6 1/2 inches.
Condition: Lip restored and handle reattached, otherwise excellent.
