An Extremely rare Neolithic gray terracotta Ram Idol, Vinca Culture, dating to the 3rd Millennium BC.
A unique example, the prehistoric cone-shape idol modeled in the form of a ram. Decorated throughout with incised decoration, filled in with white clay, most of which survives. The ram shown with pointed nose, pinpoint eyes and nostrils, smiling mouth and thick, curving horns. The horns with remains of original green pigment.
The purpose and meaning of this depiction is mysterious. It may represent either a God in the form of a ram or a ram in ceremonial cloak, prepared for sacrifice. An extremely rare piece, perhaps without parallel.
The Prehistoric Vinca (pronounced 'vincha') Culture flourished in what are now the Balkan states of Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia from the 6th Millennium BC.

Condition: Excellent. Minor chip to one horn.
