Fine Neolithic Flint Axe from Denmark - 4000 BC. A large Neolithic thin-butted flint axe from Denmark, circa 4000 - 3000 BC. Finely knapped from a large piece of mottled orange, purple and cream flint, the sides with beautiful 'stitching' marks. This tactile stone tool dates to the north-west European Neolithic period, a time when groups were moving from a Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle towards a more sedentary, farm-oriented existence. This transition is one of the overwhelming achievements of man, enabling food surplus and the rise of civilization. A pleasing, finely worked example, with fossil inclusions.
