European Bronze Age Flat Axe - 2500 BC. A large, heavy European copper alloy flat axe from Britain, dating to approximately 2500 BC. Axes of this kind were used to clear the forests of Early Europe for human habitation. They could also be used for religious purposes, as dedications. Indeed, these axes are often found in hoards throughout central Europe, where they are believed to have served a votive function.
