Large Woolly Mammoth Jaw

A fascinating prehistoric relic, the lower jaw of a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), a now long extinct species. Dating to the late Pleistocene Period, approximately 200,000 - 20,000 years ago.

The Woolly Mammoth is one of the most iconic creatures of the Ice Age; an enormous animal, roughly the same size as the modern African elephant but with huge curving tusks and a thick woolly coat. These magnificent creatures lived alongside early humans and were hunted for their meat and tusks, before they finally became extinct around 4,000 years ago.
