Ancient Egyptian Ptolemaic Period Wooden Face Mask - 200 BC. An ancient Egyptian wooden face mask, once part of a large anthropoid sarcophagus. Dating to Egypt's Ptolemaic period, circa 3rd-2nd century BC. Sensitively carved from a large piece of cedar wood, with large almond shaped eyes, a broad nose and a slim, pursed mouth. Once covered in thick paint, remnants of which survive, now black in colour. Beautifully weathered, revealing the grain of the wood beneath.
