Greek Red Figure Pelike Vase - 350 BC

A red-figure pelike from Apulia, South Italy, dating to the 4th century BC. 

Of typical form, with ring base, plump body, cylindrical neck, flared mouth and strap handles, covered with a smoky, black glaze. One side decorated with the head of a satyr with horse's ear and laurel wreath, the other with a female head, her hair covered with a sakkos, the sides with palmettes and the neck with a wave border. 

The neck with a 19th century collection label, "Cantaro Vase used by Bacchus and his followers".
