Egyptian Pre Dynastic Cosmetic Fish Palette - 3500 BC

An Egyptian Pre Dynastic cosmetic palette, in the form of a fish. Dating to the Naqada II period, circa 3500 - 3100 BC. 

Carved from green schist, depicting a stylised bulti fish (tilapia nilotica), reduced to an oval silhouette with a round, drilled eye and two deep ridges indicating the tail.
