Tang Dynasty Amber Glazed Pottery Obeisance Figure - 650 AD. A rare Chinese Tang Dynasty terracotta figure performing obeisance, dating to the 7th Century AD. The figure leans forward, head down and bowed, with arms held before him. His long overflowing garments cover his body completely. The figure wears a soft cap which is visible from above. Covered in a lovely amber glaze. A most intriguing piece of ancient Chinese terracotta art, the figure is shown in the pose of obeisance, a bowing gesture perhaps indicating that he was showing respect to a high status noble or king. It is tempting to image the present piece as part of a wider group of figures, showing a king and other worshippers receiving a delegation from another region. A similar figure can be found in the Lowe Art Museum, Miami.
