Pair of Ancient Chinese Han Dynasty Green Glazed Hu Vases - 206 BC

A superb pair of large ancient Chinese green glazed vases, dating to China's Han Dynasty, circa 206 BC - 220 AD.

Of undulating, elegant form, the piriform bodies glisten with a silvery green glaze.

These beautiful vases were used as storage vessels for wine and other liquids, and were ultimately intended for use in the afterlife as a show of wealth and status. The shapes of these wonderful pieces were influenced by far older bronze wine vessels, first produced for the elite of ancient Chinese society, in the late Shang Dynasty.

It is rare to find two Hu of such perfect form, symmetry, glaze and size. As such they make a fantastic display.
