Exceptional Classical Greek Terracotta Head of a Youth - 4th Century BC

An exceptional Classical Greek terracotta from Tarentum, circa 4th century BC.

Depicting a youth with slender neck, the oval face subtly inclined to the left, the sensuously modelled full lips slightly parted, the large, almond shaped eyes with heavy lids, the brow framed by short, combed back hair and the head covered with a peaked pilos helmet .

A magnificent example of Classical art.

Cf 10.210.155 at the Metropolitan Museum for a a far less refined example of the type.
