Ancient Roman Aubergine Glass Double Janus Head Flask - 275 AD. An ancient Roman glass toilette flask in the shape of double Janine heads, dating to 275 – 400 AD. The body mould-blown with two similar plump-faced heads with dimpled chins and curly hair. Likely produced in Syro-Palestine, this stunning mould-blown bottle reflects the skill and innovation achieved by late Roman glass-working artisans in the eastern provinces. If one wanted to understand the opulence and class of the wealthy Roman household, surely you could do no better than this precious bottle. Likely a container for the scented oils and perfumes so prized by the elite of Roman society, it may have sat atop the dresser or table of a lady of high fashion.
