Silver Tetradrachm of Alexander the Great - 311 BC

A silver tetradrachm minted in the name of Alexander the Great. Issued at the Ecbatana mint, circa 311 - 295 BC.

The obverse with a fine style portrait of Herakles, shown wearing the skin of the Nemean lion.

The reverse with Zeus, seated on a throne, holding an eagle in his outstretched right hand and gripping a lotus tipped sceptre with his left. The legend reading:

ΑΛEΞANΔPOY

"Of Alexander"

Grazing horse, anchor and mint marks in fields.
