Silver Tetradrachm of Seleucid King Antiochus VII - 138 BC

A superb portrait coin of the Seleucid King, Antiochus VII Euergetes, "The Benefactor". Issued at the at the Antioch mint, circa 138 - 129 BC.

The obverse with Antiochus, shown with the thick curls of his hair held down under a diadem.

The reverse with the goddess Athena, holding Nike in her right hand and resting her left on a grounded shield, a tall spear beside her. The legend reading:

ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ 

"Of King Antiochus the Benefactor"
