Rare Electrum Gaia Stater from Cyzicus Mysia - 450 BC

A very rare electrum stater from Kyzikos, Mysia, circa 450 - 330 BC.

The oberse with the Earth (the goddess Gaia) rising from the ground, wearing a long chiton and holding up the infant, Erichthonios, a tuna fish below.

The reverse with four part incuse punch in 'mill-sail' pattern. 


This rare coin depicts the handing-over of Erichthonius to Athena, the child who would become the future King of Athens and found a new dynasty.
