Superb Denarius of Emperor Antoninus Pius - 145 AD

A denarius issued at the Rome mint under Emperor Antoninus Pius, circa 145 - 147 AD.

The obverse with Antoninus, shown with a short beard and wearing a laurel wreath. The legend reading:

ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP

"Antoninus Augustus, Dutiful Father of the Country"

The reverse with clasped hands, holding caduceus and two ears of corn. The reverse reading:

COS IIII

"Four times Consul"

 

A fantastic coin. One of the most appealing denari of Antoninus we have ever seen.
