Denarius of Emperor Hadrian - 137 AD

A denarius issued under Emperor Hadrian in 137 AD, struck at the Rome mint.

The obverse with the distinctive bust of Hadrian with short, wavy hair and beard. The legend reading:

HADRIANVS AVG COS III PP

"Hadrianus Augustus, Three times Consul, Father of the Country"

The reverse with Salus, goddess of health, feeding a large serpent rising from a circular altar. The legend reading:

SALVS AVG

"To the Health of the Augustus"

 

Sharply struck and with a pleasing old cabinet tone.
