Fine Style Gold Stater of King Philip II of Macedon - 323 BC. A gold stater issued in the name of King Philip II of Macedon, at the Teos mint, circa 323 - 316 BC. The obverse with a fine style portrait of Apollo, wide eyed, his lip slightly curled, a laurel wreath running through the curls of his hair. The reverse shows Philip II in a two horse chariot, the horses rearing and braying as Philip grips the reins in his left hand and raises his goad with his right. The Greek legend below reads: ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ "Of Philip" Spear head and branch below. A pleasing, well provenanced coin with a beautiful portrait of Apollo.
